Surrounded by two attractive coves, is the town of Es Castell. It is a town steeped in history and military connections, evidence of which can still be seen today. Although Es Castell is quite small, the harbour area is full of life and atmosphere.
Es Castell has plenty on offer, with shops, twice weekly market, restaurants and bars. The city of Mahon is just 3km away from Es Castell and the transfer from Mahon airport to Es Castell is around 25 minutes by coach.

Beaches on Holiday in Es Castell:

There is no beach here at Es Castell but there are several beaches and coves in the area. There are coves with rocky inlets at Calas Fons and Calas Corb which are located at either side of the Es Castell but if it is a sandy beach you are after then you will find one at Punta Prima which is just a 10 minute drive away from Es Castell or you can catch a local boat. Punta Prima beach is one of the largest and most impressive beaches on the island and offers fine white sand. There are sunbeds and umbrellas to hire and a good selection of water sports available. There are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants here too so plenty to do for the day before returning to Es Castell.

Things to do on Holiday in Es Castell:

There is plenty to see in the resort of Es Castell, such as the military museum in the square which was once the old British barracks, the church of San Francisco, the nearby Marlborough Fort and the many Georgian buildings that are dotted around Es Castell.

There is a fiesta each year in Es Castell held at the end of July and there will be a whole host of entertainment, including live music, the Jaleo (rearing horses), a fun fair with stalls and rides for children and on the last evening there is a great musical fireworks display.

The bustling harbour area of Es Castell is home to many bars and restaurants, with a good range of traditional Spanish cuisine, Italian, Chinese and of course many fish dishes, whatever your taste, you will find something to suit here. There is not much nightlife to speak of in Es Castell but there are several cafes and music bars so you will be able to enjoy a few drinks after dinner.

There are plenty of shops and stalls in Es Castell and not forgetting the market twice a week.

For those who like to keep active whilst on holiday, there is a golf course in Son Bou which is approx 20 minutes away from Es Castell. There is also tennis, cycling and horse riding available nearby to Es Castell. There are many trails and paths to be found in the local countryside so get out and enjoy the fresh air and see what the area around Es Castell has to offer.

Take a trip from Es Castell to nearby Mahon for some sightseeing or even a day shopping. There is so much to see and do here, you really have to come and see it for yourself. There are many boat trips that leave the harbour of Mahon. Glass bottom boat tours are popular and a great way to see what is going on both on land and underwater in the surrounding area.

There is a diving and water sports centre in S'Algar which is close by Es Castell, so if you enjoy diving or perhaps want to take a few lessons whilst on holiday in Es Castell then this is the place to come.
