The old fishing port of Adra is situated in the southwest of the Costa de Almeria province of Spain. Despite featuring a castle the town of Adra remains relatively untouched by tourists and holiday makers, providing a great opportunity to experience real Spain.


Adra is a traditional Spanish fishing town, lined with beaches and perfect for getting a taste of real Spain on holiday, primarily in the company of Spanish speaking locals and holiday makers. Transfer from Almeria Airport to Adra is around 40 mins by coach.

Beaches on Holiday in Adra:
Long sandy beaches run the length of the town of Adra and beyond and are backed by an attractive pathway, lined with benches and palm trees. The main beach in Adra is the Poniente Beach which runs from Adra harbour to the west. To the east of the Adra harbour there are two further beaches.

Things to do on Holiday in Adra:
Behind the Adra harbour you aren't likely to miss the Torre de los Perdogonnes, standing 45 metres tall, housing the Adra Tourist Office. Historic sights to see include the watch towers and the Parish church of Adra, dating back to the 16th century and, you can learn of the town's history at the Museum of Adra. Behind the Tower there is a small playground for children, or you can relax under the shade of the trees in the Jardincillos behind Adra harbour.

If you are on holiday in Adra at the end of August you might catch the Flamenco Festival which is held on the last Saturday of the month, followed by the Adra Feria which is the Adra annual fair held between the 5th and 10th of September.

Out and about on Holiday in Adra:
There are not many restaurants in Adra but there are a good number of bars, many of which serve food. Being a harbour town, fresh fish and seafood is the speciality in Adra and traditional tapas is almost a matter of course.

Shopping in Adra is more about everyday essential in supermarkets and banks etc rather than designer shopping malls but Adra does have a market held two Saturdays per month for your holiday bargains and regular buses into the larger towns.

Nearby Attractions to Adra:
Adra is surrounded by hiking countryside, mountains and desert landscapes. Birdwatchers will find Las Albuferas de Adra of particular interest. This is a protected conservation zone and the lagoons and wetlands provide a natural habitat for birds and fish.

The main town of Almeria and the tourist resorts of Roquestas de Mar and Aguadulce are approx 40 minutes drive from Adra.
