Cala d'Or is a large resort separated from its neighbour Cala Egos by a large marina. There are two cheap mini-train routes available, one that runs between Cala d'Or and Cala Egos, and the other from Cala d'Or to Cala Esmerelda.

Land excursions from Cala d'Or include trips to the town of Manacor, famed for its artificial pearls; or the town of Felanitx, worth visiting on a Sunday morning just to experience the market which is widely recognised as being one of the best on the island. The Exotic Parque Los Pajaros is found just outside Cala d'Or, it features a children's zoo, flamingos and a garden with a variety of cactus. Alternatively the Tropical Park Jumaica, situated on the road from Porto Cristo to Porto Colom, is a lush tropical garden with rare plants and free flying exotic birds.

For golfers on holiday in Cala d'Or the nearest golf course is Vall d'Or just a 10-15 minute drive from Cala d'Or. The golf club also has a pool, driving range, paddle courts and a restaurant.

20-kilometres away from Cala d'Or in Porto Cristo are the popular Caves of Drach, the caves feature many caverns with beautifully formed stalactites and stalagmites, as well as a large subterranean lake where classical music recitals are performed daily.
