Above the beach in Playa de la Arena the beach front promenade is lined with beach shops, pavement cafes, cheap bars and restaurants. You can follow this road into Varadero to the south or, if you walk in the opposite direction you will find yourself in the narrow streets of the holiday resort of Puerto de Santiago and from there you can continue your walk into Los Gigantes.

There are a few traditional cheap tapas bars in Playa de la Arena but menus and entertainment tend to be lean more towards Chinese, Indian, English breakfast, Irish bars and sports bars.
