Rota is a typical white-washed Andalucian town in the Bay of Cadiz. A holiday in Rota is well known for its beautiful beaches and rich in culture and historical sites. Transfer time to Rota from Faro airport(Portugal)is around 50 mins by coach.

Rota is located in the Bay of Cadiz and most of the hotels are located along the beach or around the Rota golf courses. La Costilla is considered by many to be the best beach in Spain, it sits at the foot of the town of Rota and stretches for 4 km where the water is crystal clear and the sand is fine and golden.

Beaches on Holiday in Rota:
There are several beaches in Rota, including the blue flag town beaches of El Rompidillo which is located in the bay behind the Rota marina and La Costilla Beach which runs from the other side of the marina, along-side the town on the Atlantic Coast. Heading up the coast towards from Rota, Costa Ballena the beaches have a more natural setting, backed by pine trees.

Things to do on Holiday in Rota:
Golf can be played all year round and there are two courses in the resort of Rota, one in Rota between the town and the naval base and one at Costa Ballena overlooking the ocean. There are three more courses not far from Rota in the region of Jerez and Puerto Santa Maria (approx 25 minutes drive) and a further course on the way to San Fernando (approx 40 minutes drive).

You can take the 20 minute ferry crossing from the Rota marina across the bay to the city of Cadiz. In Cadiz, you can explore ancient cobbled streets and museums; visit the Cathedral, stop off at the pavement cafes lining the plazas and do some bargain holiday shopping at the designer boutiques.

Set a short way back from Rota Marina, you can visit the 13th century Castillo de Luna Castle and just across the plaza, the 16th century Church of Nuestra Senora de la O.

Festivities in Rota take place throughout the year including the Carnival in February, Holy Week in April, and the Spring Fair in May. Foodies on holiday in Rota might also enjoy the Fiesta de la Urta in August.

The town of Rota is a maze of narrow streets hiding little plazas with terrace cafes, small parks and historic monuments. The tourist office is located at the Castillo de Luna and you might want to pop in to get the most from your holiday in Rota.

The balustraded promenade behind El Rompidillo beach in Rota makes for a nice walk around the bay and there is a pedestrianised promenade behind the Costilla Beach.

The city of Jerez, it's many wineries and elite equestrian school is in easy reach of Rota and well worth a visit (26km). The ancient city of Cadiz can be reached from Rota via ferry (20 minute crossing) or by road (47km). At San Fernando which is around 40 minutes from Rota, there is a modern shopping and leisure complex as well as the Bahia de Cadiz nature reserve, home to a wealth of wading birds including flamingos.
