Travel Guide to Majorca

There never has been and possibly never will be again, such a complete destination for a holiday in Majorca. Whatever you enjoy most on your bargain holiday - whether exploration or pure relaxation - you'll find it in abundance on this blessed Mediterranean island. Majorca is effectively Spain in miniature. The high-tech, ultra-modern resorts of Palma Nova and Magaluf are just a short distance from the timeless tranquillity of Palma Cathedral, and the sophisticated shopping of the capital. Travel through groves of almonds, olives and citrus fruits to the east, and you'll find the stylish marina and secluded coves of Cala d'Or. Heading further north brings you to Alcudia, perhaps the Med's finest family resort, where shelving sands and bustling restaurants keep all ages amused.

Majorca has more then enough to satisfy even the most demanding holidaymaker, it's easy to see why thousands of happy holidaymakers return to the holiday island for a holiday in Majorca year after year.

Food & Drink
There is an excellent variety of places to eat and drink throughout Majorca including cafés, bars, take-aways and restaurants. The majority of places tend to be steered towards international food. Local cuisine can be tasted at smaller restaurants found in the inland villages; try an 'Ensaimada' a light pastry roll. Plenty of wines and liqueurs are widely available, with a variety of imported alcoholic and soft drinks.

Shopping
There is a strong tradition of craftsmanship throughout the island. Souvenir purchases include leather goods, hand embroideries, hand painted ceramics, glassware and items made from raffia and palm leaves. One of the best buys are the famous Majorcan pearls which are strung locally.

Beaches
The majority of beaches in Majorca are golden sand, with the exception of Puerto Pollensa which is shingle in parts. One of the best beaches in Majorca is at Alcudia consisting of a long, beautiful stretch of sand.

Sports
Water sports are extremely popular on the island with waterskiing, windsurfing, parasailing, sailing and scuba-diving available at most of the resorts featured. Golf is also very popular with a number of courses available. Cycling is ideal in the Alcudia area due to the flat terrain.

Nightlife
The nightlife in Majorca depends upon which resort you choose and can vary greatly. The southern resorts tend to be the lively ones, with a wide selection of bars and discos. The northern resorts are a lot quieter in comparison and the main nightlife is centred around bars and restaurants.
