Perhaps it's the stringent building restrictions in Lanzarote preventing any high-rise construction. Perhaps it's the eerie lunar landscape of Lanzarote - the creation of over 100 volcanic mountains on the island, and that holidays in Lanzarote offer a perfect location for breathtaking jeep (and even camel) safaris. Perhaps it's the persuasive scent of hibiscus and bougainvillea that permeates all of our hand-picked Lanzarote accommodation. There is a selection of excellent and good value for money restaurants throughout Lanzarote. You can savour Spanish, Chinese, Italian and international cuisine, but if you want to taste the local dishes there are numerous restaurants available. Local specialities include Canarian potatoes; 'mojo', spicy sauce and 'sanocho canario', fish salad with a hot sauce. Canarian grown bananas, tomatoes, onions and papayas are served almost everywhere. If you want to try a local tipple, 'Ronmiel', or honey rum is highly recommended.

Shopping
Bargain buys include cigarettes, wine and spirits, there are also numerous local items to tempt you including hand-made lace, table cloths, leather goods and locally drawn artistry. Teguise market is an ideal place to purchase a variety of bargains.
Beaches
Beaches in Lanzarote are generally of a very good standard. Puerto del Carmen has an excellent, long, curved beach of mid-tone sand which slopes gently. Playa de los Pocillos has a broad expanse of fine, dark sand, Playa Blanca has three beaches in the surrounding area which are sandy but with a few rocky outcrops and Costa Teguise has numerous beaches which are ideal for children.
Sports
Playa de las Cucharas in Costa Teguise is very popular for windsurfing, with other water sports including scuba diving and sailing available at the main beach, plus the nearby water park. Playa Blanca offers a diving school whilst Puerto del Carmen and surrounding resorts have a small selection of water sports including windsurfing, pedaloes and scuba diving. Metagorda is very popular for windsurfing. Other activities available include cycling, tennis, squash and mini-golf.
Nightlife
Puerto del Carmen is definitely the liveliest resort on the island and has a selection of live music bars, cocktail bars and discos for all tastes and ages. Playa de los Pocillos is a quiet resort and for a touch of nightlife, a trip to Puerto del Carmen is recommended. In Costa Teguise the majority of entertainment is concentrated within the hotel and apartment complexes, although there is a good selection of bars and restaurants. Playa Blanca is a very quiet resort, with a small choice of karaoke, discos, live music and bars.
