Shopping: The Dominican Republic offers a whole host of locally produced goods that make excellent souvenirs. Dominican coffee, rum and cigars are fantastic and also great value for money. Look out for locally mined amber, malachite, larimar, silver and gold jewellery and leather goods, painting and wooden carvings are also great buys. Unique Experience: The capital, Santo Domingo, is the oldest city in the Americas and boasts fascinating colonial architecture and interesting streets just waiting to be explored. Jurassic Park was filmed in Jarabocoa, a beautiful part of the country where cherries, apples and strawberries thrive in the temperate climate. See the whales in Samana (Winter only) or drive your own speedboat over the idyllic Caribbean sea (East only). Weather: Rainy season is during the winter months.
